The mother of imprisoned journalist Hassan Annab passed away Thursday after waiting nearly five years for his release.
Houthi militants abducted Annab, along with nine other journalists, in Sana'a soon after taking control of the capital in 2015.
Last week, after signaling that the 10 journalists would be released in a prisoner exchange, Houthis seemed to backtrack by holding the first hearing in what is considered to be a sham trial for the conviction of the journalists in the Houthi-run Specialized Criminal Court in Sana’a.
Local and international human rights groups and activists condemned the hearing.
The names of the nine other journalists are Abdul Khaliq Omran, Akram al-Walidi, Al-Harith Saleh Hamid, Tawfiq al-Mansouri, Hisham Tarmum, Haitham al-Shihab, Hisham al-Yousfi, Issam Belghaith and Salah al-Qaedi.
