Gunman in Lawder mosque shooting said to be suffering from mental illness

Five people were killed and 10 others injured on Tuesday after a gunman opened fire on mosque worshippers in Abyan’s Lawder district in southern Yemen.

An eyewitness said five people were confirmed dead at the scene of the shooting, including the mosque’s Imam and the gunman's father.

The gunman, who was suffering from poor mental health, started shooting at the worshippers in the mosque of Al-Sala village during afternoon prayers, according to the witness, who is also a friend of the gunman's family.

The gunman fled after committing the crime, leaving the villagers in a state of shock, the witness said.
