Hodeidah is one of the most heavily-mined governorates in Yemen

WFP truck carrying food aid hits Houthi landmine in Hodeidah

The World Food Programme (WFP) said on Tuesday that one of its trucks carrying humanitarian food aid hit a landmine in Hodeidah governorate’s Al-Duraihimi district, injuring the driver.

The driver is currently receiving treatment, WFP said in a statement, noting that the food aid on board the truck was not damaged.

“All parties to the conflict must protect civilians and civilian infrastructure and permit the unrestricted flow of commercial cargo as well as humanitarian assistance and staff throughout Yemen,” the statement read.

In the absence of food assistance, WFP estimates that the current number of people in Yemen who wake up hungry everyday, about 16 million, would increase to more than 20 million.
