Al-Alimi camp has housed 200 families from the southern coastal area of Hodeidah since mid-January

Fire at IDP camp in southern Hodeidah kills one child, injures four

One child died and four others were injured in a huge fire that broke out in a camp for displaced people in Hodeidah governorate on Yemen’s Red Sea coast Thursday morning.

The blaze killed a 4-year-old girl, Khatemah Mastoor, and injured four others in the middle of Al-Alili camp, east of Al-Khokha district in southern Hodeidah, a local humanitarian worker said, adding that 14 tents and relief supplies in the camp were also destroyed.

This is not the first time a fire has damaged Al-Alili camp, which has housed 200 families of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the southern coastal area of Hodeidah since mid-January. In early July 2019, the camp became the target of heavy Houthi shelling.
