Ministry of Water allocates nearly $2.6 million to address flood damages

The Ministry of Water and Environment announced the allocation of 1.45 billion Yemeni riyals (about $2.6 million) from the World Bank to address the urgent needs of southern and eastern governorates as a result of damage caused by flash floods.

“[The ministry] will move quickly to address the damages to southern and eastern governorates in coordination with the World Bank and international partners, to support the Water and Sanitation Foundation in Aden, Lahj, Taiz and Hadramout governorates," the ministry said in a statement released Friday.

The ministry is working with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to supply and distribute control panels for wells and trucks, as well as suction pumps for sewers, and funds for maintaining sewage systems and water sources in the affected cities.
