Government officials in the interim capital of Aden have resorted to purchasing diesel from local traders amid an ongoing fuel shortage, an official in the state electricity corporation told Almasdar Online.
The shortage has doubled the power generation deficit over the past two weeks in the coastal governorate, known for its hot and humid weather. The official traced the shortage to the quarantine of a ship carrying fuel in Aden's Al-Zeit port.
The ship, which has four days remaining of a two-week quarantine, was prevented from unloading the fuel as part of precautionary measures taken to counter the spread of COVID-19 in Yemen.
Yemen’s first confirmed case was announced in Hadhramout governorate on April 9.
