Yemen’s prime minister declared the floods a natural disaster

Floods in Aden leave eight dead, dozens of homes destroyed

Floods in the interim capital of Aden killed eight people on Tuesday and injured at least four others, according to a statement released by the Aden Security Department.

Those killed were residents of the districts of Crater and Al-Tawahi and the Al-Arish neighborhood in Khourmaksar district. The injured were residents of Al-Sheikh Othman district, according to the statement.

The floods led to the partial destruction of 75 homes in Crater, Khourmaksar and Al-Sheikh Othman districts. A home in Al-Tawahi was completely destroyed, the statement said. 

Civil defense and security forces in various districts have begun to reopen the once-flooded streets.

Yemen’s Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed on Tuesday declared the floods a natural disaster and called on countries and relief organizations to assist in the recovery.
