Forces loyal to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) carried out a campaign of mass arrests in Aden on Friday, after a grenade exploded inside a military vehicle in the center of the city and injured two soldiers, a local source and eyewitnesses told Almasdar Online
The source, who works in the local authority in Aden, said that early on Friday morning unidentified assailants used a grenade to attack a military vehicle belonging to the Storm Forces, a specialized unit in the STC’s forces.
The vehicle was parked next to the building of the National Bank on Arwa street in the district of Crater, in the south of the interim capital. The two soldiers injured in the blast were treated at a hospital in Aden and the explosion caused extensive damage to the vehicle.
Following the attack, witnesses said that troops and armored vehicles were deployed throughout the area in Crater and fired rounds into the air while arresting youth standing near the scene.
According to the sources, at least 15 young people from the neighborhood who were sitting near the scene were arrested and then taken to an investigation center in Aden belonging to the Storm Forces. The armed men who were attacked are personnel in the Storm Forces, a unit of the UAE-sponsored STC.
A resident in Crater told Almasdar Online that two bullets hit the windows of his house, which is located in one of the buildings behind the National Bank, after the STC forces deployed and fired rounds into the air.
