EU welcomes government's return to Aden

The European Union welcomed the return of the Yemeni government to Aden, considering it an important development and a first step in the implementation of the Riyadh agreement.

The EU spokesman said in a statement that "The government's return to Aden represents the first step in the implementation of the Riyadh agreement signed between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council...The government's presence in Yemen is an important development," the statement said.

The statement added, "The EU expects all parties concerned to comply with the terms of the agreement and to cooperate sincerely on the ground to ensure that the agreement is implemented smoothly and on time.

"The full implementation of the agreement should pave the way for a comprehensive UN-sponsored political agreement on the conflict," the statement continued.

The EU said it would "continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation with the Yemeni government and will provide its full support to the UN special envoy in this regard."
