Gergash comments on Riyadh agreement: Yemen is on the verge of a new phase

Yemen is entering a new phase, commenting on the Riyadh agreement between the legitimate government and the Abu Dhabi-backed Transitional Council, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gergash said Saturday.

He added in a tweet on his Twitter account, "The efforts of Saudi Arabia to reach the Riyadh agreement and unite the Yemeni ranks are historic."

"It is important to focus on confronting the Houthi coup and its aggression," he said.

"Yemen is coming to a new stage, its success is linked to commitment and the unification of priorities and objectives," he said.

Yemeni Information Minister Moamer al-Iryani said Saturday that the signing of the Riyadh accord between the Yemeni government and the southern transitional council would take place within the next two days.

The UAE has already begun withdrawing its troops and equipment from the southern regions, in a move that, according to observers, comes as part of unannounced understandings between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi, as part of a solution to the crisis that followed the UAE-backed southern transitional takeover of Yemen's interim capital city of Aden in early last August.
