Yemeni Army forces retreated from the Nihm front, northeast of the capital Sana’a, after a Houthi attack amid intense fighting between both sides ran into day four.
An army field commander posted along the Nihm front told Almasdar Online that Houthi fighters took control of the strategic Al-Manara mountain on Tuesday evening after government forces withdrew under heavy fire.
The Nihm front, which consists of a 40-kilometer-long series of mountains, has been the scene of violent clashes since Saturday, in which both sides have lost a significant number of soldiers.
The recent eruption of fighting in the area, which has reached levels not seen in years, proceeded in the absence of Saudi-backed coalition air support until Tuesday.
