Two people were killed and four others injured in shootings on Thursday in Qattan and Seiyun districts in the central valleys of Hadhramout governorate in eastern Yemen, hours after a soldier was assassinated in the same area.
An unidentified gunman shot five students outside a health institute in Seiyun Thursday morning, killing one and seriously injuring the other four, a security official told Almasdar Online.
The attacker, who also allegedly assassinated the soldier hours earlier, fled after targeting the students, the security official said, adding that the soldier was working as a bodyguard for Seiyun’s security chief.
In a separate incident in Qattan, a young shop owner belonging to the Batis tribe was shot dead by an unidentified gunman who fled the scene.
Security services in Hadhramout have opened investigations into the attacks and are pursuing the gunmen, the official said.
Government security and military forces have been the main targets of assassinations and killings in Wadi Hadramaut over the past two years.
