Abyan's governor returns to Zinjibar and resumes his duties
The Governor of Abyan, Major General Abu Bakr Hussein Salem arrived to Zinjibar, the governorate’s capital, on Wednesday evening for the first time since August, after clashes with Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces forced his departure. He is said to begin a tour of inspections in a number of Abyan districts, local sources told Almasdar.
The governor was seen holding two separate meetings with the heads of Zinjibar and Khanfar districts to discuss resumption of stalled projects in the two districts, witnesses have reported to Almasdar.
Hussain Salem’s return to the city comes amid intense clashes between Hadi government forces and UAE-backed STC security belt in Ahwar in Abyan resulted in full control of Hadi's forces of the city leaving seven casualties from both sides.
A military source told Almasdar Online today that the government’s military forces have withdrawn from the city of Ahwar, and units of the Government's "Special Security" forces, led by Lt. Col. Mohammed Al-Awban, were deployed g in Ahwar city center and established a number of checkpoints coastal road leading to Shaqra city.
The governor Hussein Salem left Zinjibar for the al-Mahfad district in southeastern Abyan governorate with the governorate’s security chief, Brig. Gen. Ali Al-Dheib Al-Kazmi. Al-Kazmi was likewise forced to leave ZInjibar in August, and then joined Hussain Salem in leaving for Saudi Arabia in September due to clashes with STC forces.
